Wapentake of Wirksworth
Plus Alderwasley and Ashleyhay from the Hundred of Appletree

In 1627 many people in Derbyshire, like those in other counties, considered it illegal for Charles I to raise a levy or "loan" without the consent of Parliament.
Nevertheless "persuasions, threats and force were used throughout the country to extort the loan".

This roll covered the hundred of Appletree and wapentake of Wirksworth, listing the names of all people who "agreed" to lend money to His Majesty. It was collected by Robert WILLYMOTT of Chaddesden, who was appointed Collector for these two hundreds.

The roll was signed by

- Henr. AGARD
- Fra: COKE
- John CURZON
- W. DEVONSHYRE
- Petr. FRECHEVILE
- Ri. HARPUR
- He. LEGH
- John MANNERS
- Henry SHIRLEY
- He. WILUGHBY
