Description of the Enumeration Districts:

Enumeration District 10

[The enumerator wrote that this was ED2 but this was crossed through when checked and changed to ED10]
  All that part of the Parish of Matlock, from a line just below the Top of Willersley, taking in Willersley, Gardener's House and Farm, & all houses to Cromford Bridge. And in the Ecclesiastical Parish of St. Giles, Matlock. M C
All that part of the Parish of Matlock from and including a house occupied by G M Lennox in Cromford Market Place taking in all Scarthin to Chapel Hill from a direct line over the top of the hill to the South Side of the Independent Chapel. In the Urban Sanitary District of Matlock Bath, also in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Holy Trinity Matlock Bath.
The whole is in the Parliamentary Division of West Derbyshire.

  All that part of the Parish of Matlock from the Independent Chapel following the River Derwent to the Bridge leading to Matlock Bath Station, thence by a line up by and taking in the House of the Rev. Charles Barker. All houses in Matlock Bath and Upper Wood.
This is the Urban Sanitary District of Matlock Bath. Also in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Holy Trinity, Matlock Bath.
The whole is in the Parliamentary Division of West Derbyshire.

  All that part of the Parish of Matlock from the House of the Rev. Charles Barker (Matlock Bath) following the River Derwent as far as the Limestone Quarries, Matlock Dale, taking in all houses in the Dale and Commons Wood. Also all that part of the Parish of Matlock from the Limestone Quarries, following the River Derwent, taking in all houses on the Western side of Hall Dale, including Masson and Matlock Bridge.

  All that part of the Parish of Matlock from the Brook course running from Hurker Hall to the Moot Hall Lead Mine (boundary line of Darley parish) following the River Derwent to Matlock Bridge; from thence taking in all houses on the Northern side of Dob Lane as far as Smedleys (but not taking that in) thence forward up Rutland Street until reching [sic] Wellington Street taking in all house on the top side of it to the end of Bent Lane now called Cavendish Street taking in also the Wold Farm and all the houses on the Top side as far and including Balmoral House : Comprising Gas Works, Dimple, part of Matlock Bank and part of Matlock Bridge. The whole of the District is in the Urban District of Matlock.
Ecclesiastical Parish All Saints Matlock Bank.

  All that part of the Parish of Matlock from the Southern Side of Dob Lane, leading from Matlock Bridge to Bent Lane, taking in all houses up to Cuckoostone including that and all houses on the Northern Side of the Chesterfield road from the boundary line of Ashover as far as the Duke of Wellington Inn, from thence along the road leading to the Hurst, from thence along the road leading from Lumsdale following that to a stone marked S.C.D. from thence taking a line to the Hurst taking in Asker Farm to the post marked S.C.D., take in the Hurst Farm House, Chesterfield House, and all houses on Lower Side of road from thence to Chesterfield road including all houses on the Southern side of it to Lime Tree Lane, as far down as the footpath leading from thence towards Matlock Bridge.

  Taking a line from the River Derwent along the bottom of the Hall Leys, thence taking in Dr. Harrison's House, along the Lime Tree Lane, from thence to the footpath back of Mr. Bailey's Corn Mill to top of Smuce Lane on the Cliff, taking in all houses from there down the Cliff, taking in Matlock Green and Matlock Town as far as the trough by road side above the "Star Inn".
Also all that part of the parish of Matlock from the top of Smuce Lane on the Cliff up the road leading then to Hill Top Farm, taking in Riber.

  All that part of the Parish of Matlock from the Water trough in road above Star Inn, up Starkholmes Rd., to Matlock Bath Gas Works taking in all Starkholmes, Cottages at top of Willersley Lane, Woodseats, Woodend, and Bow Wood to Lea Bridge, taking in all houses on North East side of Lea Brook, following boundary of line between parishes of Matlock and Lea to the road leading from Lea past Littlemoor to Hearthstone, thence to and including Wood End, Starkholmes.

  All that part of the Parish of Matlock taking in all houses in Lumsdale both sides of Smuce Lane, both sides of Turnpike Road top of Cliff to Tansley. This is in the Urban Sanitary District of Matlock.
Also the whole of the hamlet of Tansley (in Crich parish) including part of Lumsdale. This is in the Rural Sanitary District of Bakewell.
The whole of it is in the Ecclesiastical Parish of Holy Trinity Tansley. The whole in the Parliamentary Division of West Derbyshire.
[Transcriber's note: this description is slightly misleading. In this enumeration district Lumsdale was recorded after the village of Tansley. Tansley village itself is not included here]
