Description/Historical Information: |
Matlock celebrating the Coronation of King George
V. The decoration
of the Hall Leys was undertaken by the Decorating Committee, part
of the Coronation Committee set up by Matlock Urban Council. The bandstand
was decorated with red white and blue bunting, flags, shields and
fairy lamps whilst the Broad Walk was decorated with Japanese lanterns
and bunting. This large group, made up mostly of men, were probably
listening to the Coronation Choir. It was reported (Derbyshire Times
and Chesterfield Herald 24 June 1911) that amongst the many attendees
were members of the Council, the clergy, and friendly societies.
