Aaron's Return with his bride.
Aaron Rodgers a grocer, who was aged 85, married Mrs
Laura Elizabeth Wray [a pensioner] at Holy Trinity. She had been
selected from amongst several applicants. The marriage caused some
comment. In an attempt to stop the marriage from taking place Charles
Frederick White wrote a letter of to the Salvation Army, also published
in the Derby paper, asking them to intervene. Photographers were
plentiful on the day, but the groom threw stones at them! A month
after the wedding it was reported that the bride had boarded the
London bound train and would not be returning to Tansley. |
