A second picture looking down into Matlock Dale at the Artists' Corner
bend in the road. By the 1950s there was considerably more tree cover
than in the 1920s (see previous image)
and the rocks of Shining Cliff are hidden from view. One row back
from the properties on the main road are the houses of Common Wood.
The large house on the right (about a third of the way up and coloured
yellow on the card) is the large house known as The Rocks that was
built by Colonel Payne, one of several he built in Matlock Bath and
Matlock Dale.
