Place: Matlock Moor
Property / Street / Road: Cuckoostone
Date: Sept 1914 (published in The High Peak News on 5th)
Description/Historical Information: Matlock Rifle Range. Mr Harry Douglas and Mr Gus Knowles instructing new recruits.
They appear to be using an earlier rifle than the standard Lee-Enfield used by the Army in WW1 (possibly a Martini-Henry). Also see VLA5263.

In 1921 it was decided to revive the Matlock and District Rifle Club; its last meeting had been in 1915. At the outbreak of war there had been 33 members, of whom six lost their lives.
They were: L. G. Dickenson, R. Smith, Wm. Bosley (commemorated at Cromford), John Finney and Frank White. Note that one name is missing.
