The young man is Reg Ward, who was killed in the
First World War.
Reg
is shown here with two of the trophies he had won in pre-WW1
billiard maches and competitions. On the wall behind him is a poster
for an upcoming billiard match (750 UP) that was to be held on Wednesday,
20th May 1914. The contestants were Mr. R. Ward and Mr. G. W. Spencer
of Matlock Bank. Spencer was to be featured in the High Peak News
later in the year. He was only 16 years of age and was already a
promising billiards player.
