Description/Historical Information: |
2/6th Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire
Regiment). The identity of this soldier is not yet known. The rifle
he is holding is a Magazine Lee Enfield (MLE).
It snowed twice whilst the Regiment was at Buxton, near the end of
November and towards the end of December. The severe weather and snow
at the end of December 1914 made outdoor training exercises very difficult
(WO 95/3025/3, Battalion's War Diary, 1914 - 1916, TNA: noted in Dec
1914). |
