The battalion was in Epping 8 Feb - 24 Feb 1915
(dates from WO 95/3025/3, Battalion's War Diary, 1914 - 1916, TNA) |
Description/Historical Information: |
Digging a trench. The battalion had moved to
Epping for a course in entrenching "under instruction of C.R.E." (from
war diary). Four of the soldiers were smoking pipes and three are
smoking cigarettes, so they were probably on a break. Some of these
soldiers look very young. The lad centre front can be seen in VLA9798 and
others appear in several photographs. Pte James Edgar Brocklehurst
is on the right behind the shovel, with sleeves rolled up and pipe
in his mouth. |
