Description/Historical Information: |
Group of seven, two with towels over their shoulders
as if it was wash day. The soldier standing on the right was a signaller,
denoted by the crossed flags on his sleeve. Above his right breast
pocket is the Territorial Force Imperial Service Badge, awarded
to those who had joined UK based forces and subsequently agreed to
serve overseas. Edwin Rogers of Matlock was one of the signallers but this may not be him. Vernon Lamb photographed the
Signalling Section sitting outside their tent in July 1915.
This soldier is also shown on VLA4921.
The soldier front right, who is smoking, also has a badge on his sleeve indicating that he was a drummer. He has a
3-tier Notts & Derby shoulder badge. |
