Description/Historical Information: |
A platoon of soldiers, practising signalling with
flags. Their flags seem to be white with a dark horizontal line across
the centre. Also see VLA9761. Signalling
with flags declined as the war progressed. In October 1915 there
were 46 signallers in the battalion, but they were hampered by lack
of equipment. They only had one borrowed Begbie lamp, though they were
practicing laying telephone wires at night. Two months later they were
still handicapped by lack of equipment (WO 95/3025/3, Battalion's War
Diary, 1914 - 1916, TNA). |
