Highly polished chauffeur driven Armstrong-Whitworth car, registration LH419 and circa 1913, without passengers (same
driver as VLA4931, VLA4936 and VLA4941). A number of
advertisements forArmstrong-Whitworth cars carried an endorsement from S.V.C. "of Matlock ". He was Saint Vincent Conway,
the joint headmaster of the private preparatory school for boys at Stancliffe Hall Darley Dale and clearly an enthusiast.
The house behind the car and on the corner was named Cliff House, Smedley Street at the time and occupied by Mr John James Wheeldon, a master
butcher (1911 census and rate assessment book). |
