Property / Street / Road: The Empire Hotel
Date: 2 Nov 1914 - 3 Feb 1915
Description/Historical Information: 2/6th Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment). Group of eleven soldiers in the snow. The severe weather and snow at the end of December 1914 made outdoor training exercises very difficult (WO 95/3025/3, Battalion's War Diary, 1914 - 1916, TNA: noted in Dec 1914). Some of these men appear in other photographs and the man front right lived in Matlock. See VLA9811.
