Description/Historical Information: |
The men were housed in private billets in Luton,
Epping and Watford over the winter months. Soldiers outside one
of the billets, presumably being welcomed by their hosts. Other households
in the same road took in soldiers. There is a "Police" sign
by the front door of the house on the left. Written in chalk on the
doorway are "Gardiner 2- 6th D. Coy ---". The soldier on
the far right was from Matlock and appears in other photographs.
