Three of the photos on this card show changes and improvements to the
town. Boating had been re-introduced along the stretch of the Derwent
parallel to the Hall Leys following a Council decision in 1929.
Once
the it had been decided that the tram was to be disbanded, the shelter
was removed from Crown Square and eventually erected on the Hall
Leys. The demolition of shops at Park Head had left a large space
and in time the stone wall between the road and the park was built,
together with an area for seating. We can see in the picture of "The
Park" that it had only just been built.
The final improvement was to the park itself. A boating lake, a
children's play area with swings and a paddling pool were all constructed
to cater for the townspeople and visitors alike. |
