Matlock Cinema House

Prizewinners, holding their trophies or books, gathered outside Matlock's Ritz Cinema in the summer of 1951 following Ernest Bailey Grammar School's annual Speech Day. Other schools held their speech days in local cinemas as they would have been one of the few venues able to accommodate current and past pupils and their parents. However, Bailey's didn't really have a Hall. There was a large classroom with a stage which had obviously been enough in earlier days, but was less than adequate in the 1950s.
