" A Peep at Riber Castle, Matlock" is included under
Matlock because the subject is in Matlock. The view, however, was
taken from Matlock Bath - judging by the angle it was possibly from
somewhere along Temple Walk. Some of the Starkholmes houses can be
seen through the trees, clustered on the hillside below the Castle.
The building dominates the skyline and was created by the mill owner
and hydropathist John Smedley, who also left another, and equally
prominent, building legacy in Matlock. His Hydro on Matlock Bank,
however, has fared somewhat better than his Castle.
