The Empire Hotel |
Date: |
2 Nov 1914 - 3 Feb 1915 |
Description/Historical Information: |
Men standing in front of garage doors holding
assorted food, including raw meat/bacon, bread, butter and big jars
of preserves. Behind them is a dining area (the Mess), with laid
trestle tables.
The large garage in the Hotel's grounds, where
the Mess was, had a concrete floor. There was a plentiful water supply
from the standpipes, so the whole place was swilled and scrubbed
each day (WO 95/3025/3, Regimental War Diary, 1914 - 1916, TNA: section
written Nov 1914).
