Matlock Bath, the Heights of Abraham
Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century : Photographs, Postcards, Engravings & Etchings

Heights of Abraham

This engraving is captioned Heights of Abraham, Matlock.
The first edition of Smedley's book claimed that this view was "seen from the Hydropathic Establishment, Matlock Bank".
As we can see the Upper Towers on the Heights, this was clearly untrue.
Nineteenth century books often referred to Matlock Bath as Matlock.
