Past Matlock & Matlock Bath photographers



Here are the full cast of the 1930 production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Gondoliers", filling the entire stage of the Ritz Cinema. The photograph was almost certainly taken by W. N. Statham of Dale Road as he took the pictures for the programme. The names of those who were in principal roles can be seen on the previous page; they are also on this photo but are not named here. Behind the cast is the wonderful scenery that was hired for the occasion. The curtain in front of the stage hid the orchestra pit.

Some of the first names of cast members have been provided because on the back of the mount are lists of names, including some first names.



Ladies of the chorus:

The two heralds at the back were Mr. C. Rushton and Mr. C. White.
Miss Bernice Hardstaff, whose collection this is from, was bottom row, left.
