[1] Matlock
St Giles' MIs have been transcribed by the Derbyshire Ancestral
Research Group and the transcripts from inside the church are published
here with their written permission. I am extremely grateful to
them.
[2] Transcript corrected Jun 2010 with
the help of The Revd John Drackley (author of the Church Guide
2006) to whom I am also very grateful. He has added (April
2011) that cleaning of the Cumming memorial in 2008 has revealed
that the monument was erected by his brothers, as opposed to brother
as originally transcribed.
[3] See : Pedigree of Leacroft
[4] Cox, J Charles (1877) "Notes
on the Churches of Derbyshire Vol II" Chesterfield:
Palmer and Edmunds, London: Bemrose and Sons, 10 Paternoster
Buildings; and Derby. The first transcript of item No. 28 provided,
and subsequently corrected, was extracted from Cox.
[5] Item no. 29, which
is almost illegible today, has been amended to take in a corrected
version of the transcript included in Bryan, Benjamin (1903) "History
of Matlock - Matlock, Manor and Parish" London by Bemrose & Sons,
Limited. This inscription is so low down that it can only be read
by kneeling on the floor and using a strong light!
[6] Revd Drackley also
points out that a great many more names have been added to the
Chantry Book (item No. 36 in the list) since these transcripts
were done, so the list provided here is incomplete.
